APC remains best option for Nigerians—- Spokesperson

The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has disclosed that in spite of the difficulties Nigerians are presently going through, the government of APC under President Muhammadu Buhari still remains the best option for the nation.

Mallam Abdullahi stated this in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital while speaking with journalists on Sunday.

According to him, “Nigerians would be unfair to lay blame of the current happenings in the country to the party in government explaining that the Muhammadu Buhari administration came into office less than two years ago.

“The three major campaign promises made by President Buhari which he has gradually started implementing and tackling are war against corruption , to fight insurgency particularly Boko Haram and to create
employment opportunities for the unemployed Nigerian youths which he described as a global problem but said its being looked into by the APC government.

Mallam Abdullahi explained that the unemployment rate among Nigerian youth is between 40 to 41percent but what makes that of the country more complex is that eighty percent of the unemployed youths do not poses more than secondary school education which makes the impact of the government in proving employment not to be well felt.

The Publicity Secretary however assured Nigerians that the present administration has already started putting in place various social initiatives and palliative measures to reduce the hardship faced by the people and assured that as leaders of APC, they have the responsibility to hold the party accountable and proffer suggestions on how to do certain things differently.

Mallam Abdullahi ,a former Minister of Youth Development and Sports vehemently kicked against the scrapping of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and described the scheme as a good institution of National unity but calls for its repositioning and rebranding adding that youth should not go and just mark time for one year, rather the scheme should be expanded for challenges after service.

He said: “The most frustrating, confusing and traumatic period in the life of a student is when he or she completes the one year service scheme where he transits from the world of studentship and the world
of responsibility and ends up unemployed.”

The APC Spokesperson also passed a Vote of Confidence on the leadership of National Assembly stressing that the party is absolutely satisfied on the activities of the lawmakers.

Mallam Abdullahi said if it were not Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara at the helm of affairs at both chambers now particularly when President Muhammadu Buhari traveled abroad on medical vacation, the
situation in the country would not have been too comfortable as lawmakers would have raised different motions and thereby overheat the polity.

He said: “If these two gentlemen were not the heads of affairs at the National Assembly at this moment, we may be facing or most likely face a different kind of challenge as they have both with the support of other lawmakers stabilize the situation.”

Drama as mother unknowingly eats ‘love portion’ from food prepared by her son

Drama ensued in Kakuri area of Kaduna State last week after a woman simply identified as Igo, allegedly ate ‘love portion’ from food prepared by her own son.

It was gathered that the son, Kingsley had prepared noodles waiting for his old classmate 'crush' but his mother unknowingly ate of the food.
It was gathered that the mother had left for the market, leaving the son, who is a student of Kaduna State Polytechnic at home.
The woman, a widow, who sells roasted yam at a popular garage in the area returned home to meet the already prepared noodles by his son.
A source hinted this reporter that Kingsley was expecting a lady, who lives around Romi area of the state and had gone to buy juice when the mum returned incognito to meet the ‘love meal’ and unknowingly ate of it.
“He (Kingsley) was not expecting the mum that time because she sells roasted yam at the garage and was not supposed to return until about 6 to 7pm. But that day, she didn’t have enough yam so she came back very early to meet the ‘dangerous’ meal,” the source said.
The eyewitness said, on returning from where he had gone to buy juice, Kingsley was shocked to see the mother back home and had already eaten from the noodles he had prepared.
“On sighting her, Kingsley started asking her some funny questions on why she came that early. The mother was inquisitive to know what was happening but he refused to open up,” the source said.
The girl, eventually could not show up.
It was gathered that the charm did not manifest until after three days later when the mother started acting strange towards the son. She was constantly screaming 'Kingsley come and massage me'.
"She keeps professing her love for the son and all that was unusual of her," he added

When this strange behaviour of the woman became noticeable, some youths in the area summoned the son and demanded to know what he had to the mum but he would not open up.

After much pressure and threats to beat him up, he admitted that the mother accidentally ate love portion from food meant for his crush.

He directed them to the house of the man who prepared the charm for him in Kawo area of the state but the man said the charm would only fade with time and cannot be reversed.

In the meantime, some family members had taken both the woman and her son to a popular Lagos pastor for prayer

Saraki, Dogara other principal officers steal N40 billion from budget, SERAP claims

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP has accused the National Assembly leadership of stealing about N40 billion out of the N100 billion allocated for constituency project.
In a letter sent to Buhari, the organization asked the President to investigate Lawmakers involved in budget padding.

SERAP, in an open letter sent to President Muhammadu Buhari requested
him to use his good offices and leadership position “to urgently instruct security and anti-corruption agencies to forward to you reports of their completed investigations into allegations of padding and stealing of some N481 billion from the 2016 budget by some principal officers of the National Assembly.”
The organisation also asked Mr. Buhari to “direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN, and/or appropriate anti-corruption agencies to without delay commence prosecution of indicted officers; and to urgently halt alleged ongoing attempt by some principal officers of the National Assembly to divert N40 billion of the N100 billion allocated by your government as ‘zonal intervention’ in the 2017 budget.”
In the letter dated March 24 and signed by SERAP deputy director, Timothy Adewale, the organisation requested the government to “take the above recommended steps within 14 days of the receipt and/or publication of this letter, failing which SERAP will institute appropriate legal and public-interest proceedings to compel the government to discharge its national and international anti-corruption obligations and commitments in this matter.”
According to the organisation, “Unless the principal officers indicted in the alleged padding of the 2016 budget are promptly prosecuted and any stolen public funds recovered, your government will not be able to stop the alleged ongoing attempts to steal from the 2017 budget. Alleged corruption in the budget process will not just melt away or simply evaporate without addressing the fundamental issue of impunity of perpetrators.”
The organisation said that, “Addressing alleged corruption in the budget process by pursuing prosecution of indicted principal officers of the National Assembly will provide an important opportunity for your government to reignite the fight against corruption and fulfil a cardinal campaign promise, to show that your government works on behalf of the many, and not the few, as well as jumpstart economic activities and break the back of the current recession.”
The letter read in part: “Publishing the report of the investigation of the alleged padding of the 2016 budget, and prosecuting suspected perpetrators are absolutely important to avoid another padding in the 2017 budget, which your government can ill afford.
“Corruption in the budget process takes away and erodes much needed resources for public and developmental purposes. SERAP is seriously concerned about the level of secrecy surrounding the budget process in the National Assembly, which has invariably created a breeding place for alleged corruption.
“Secrecy in the National Assembly has clearly gone beyond the level permitted by law, and apparently served as the incubator for corruption, while depriving the Nigerian people of a much-needed opportunity to cleanse the National Assembly of persistent allegations of corruption.

“SERAP has received very credible information from multiple sources that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have now completed investigations into the allegations of padding of the 2016 budget, completed their reports, and indicted some principal officers of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Also, the accounts of some of the principal officers containing allegedly illicit funds have been frozen, and that the case files for the prosecution of those indicted are ready.”
“SERAP has also received credible information from whistle-blowers about ongoing attempt by some principal officers of the National Assembly to allegedly steal N40 billion of the N100 billion allocated by your government as ‘zonal intervention’ (also known as constituency projects) in the 2017 budget.”
“SERAP is also aware of the alleged risk of corruption involving the $2.5 budget oil bench mark increment which comes up to about N131 billion. The N131 billion will be appropriated to either reduce deficit or increase expenditure or both but unless the spending of the funds is closely monitored and scrutinised, the funds may be diverted, mismanaged or stolen.”
“SERAP is also concerned that deception in the budget process will continue unless Nigerians are granted access to inspect the budget process and other activities by the National Assembly. SERAP strongly believes that Nigerians have the right to know what their lawmakers are doing so that they are able to appraise their work and hold them to account.”
SERAP therefore asked Mr. Buhari to:
1. Urgently instruct security and anti-corruption agencies to forward to him reports of their investigations into allegations of padding and stealing of some N481 billion from the 2016 budget by some principal officers of the National Assembly, and to direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and/or appropriate anti-corruption agencies to without delay commence prosecution of indicted officers;
2. Direct the publication of the report of investigations by security and anti-corruption bodies into the alleged padding of the 2016 budget.
3. Urgently halt alleged ongoing attempt by some principal officers of the National Assembly to steal N40 billion of the N100 billion allocated by your government as ‘zonal intervention’ in the 2017 budget;

4. Closely monitor and scrutinise the spending of N131 billion (accrued from increased oil bench mark) allocated for additional non-constituency projects expenditure, to remove the possibility of corruption.

10 surprising health benefits of sex

Sex not only feels good. It can also be good for you. Here is webmd.com’s  list of the top 10 benefits of a healthy sex life.

Helps Keep Your Immune System Humming

“Sexually active people take fewer sick days,” says Yvonne K. Fulbright, PhD a sexual health expert.

People who have sex have higher levels of what defends your body against germs, viruses, and other intruders. Researchers at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania found that college students who had sex once or twice a week had higher levels of the a certain antibody compared to students who had sex less often.

You should still do all the other things that make your immune system happy, such as:

    Eat right.
    Stay active.
    Get enough sleep.
    Keep up with your vaccinations.
Use a condom if you don’t know both of your STD statuses.

    Boosts Your Libido

Longing for a more lively sex life? “Having sex will make sex better and will improve your libido,” says Lauren Streicher, MD. She is an assistant clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.

For women, having sex ups vaginal lubrication, blood flow, and elasticity, she says, all of which make sex feel better and help you crave more of it.

    Improves Women’s Bladder Control

A strong pelvic floor is important for avoiding incontinence, something that will affect about 30% of women at some point in their lives.

Good sex is like a workout for your pelvic floor muscles. When you have an orgasm, it causes contractions in those muscles, which strengthens them.

    Lowers Your Blood Pressure

Research suggests a link between sex and lower blood pressure, says Joseph J. Pinzone, MD. He is CEO and medical director of Amai Wellness.

“There have been many studies,” he says. “One landmark study found that sexual intercourse specifically (not masturbation) lowered systolic blood pressure.” That’s the first number on your blood pressure test.

    Counts as Exercise

“Sex is a really great form of exercise,” Pinzone says. It won’t replace the treadmill, but it counts for something.

Sex uses about five calories per minute, four more calories than watching TV. It gives you a one-two punch: It bumps up your heart rateand uses various muscles.

So get busy! You may even want to clear your schedule to make time for it on a regular basis. “Like with exercise, consistency helps maximize the benefits,” Pinzone says.

    Lowers Heart Attack Risk

A good sex life is good for your heart. Besides being a great way to raise your heart rate, sex helps keep your estrogen and testosterone levels in balance.

“When either one of those is low you begin to get lots of problems, likeosteoporosis and even heart disease,” Pinzone says.

Having sex more often may help. During one study, men who had sex at least twice a week were half as likely to die of heart disease as men who had sex rarely.

    Lessens Pain

Before you reach for an aspirin, try for an orgasm.

“Orgasm can block pain,” says Barry R. Komisaruk, PhD, a distinguished service professor at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. It releases a hormone that helps raise your pain threshold.

Stimulation without orgasm can also do the trick. “We’ve found that vaginal stimulation can block chronic back and leg pain, and many women have told us that genital self-stimulation can reduce menstrualcramps, arthritic pain, and in some cases even headache,” Komisaruk says.

May Make Prostate Cancer Less Likely

Going for the gusto may help ward off prostate cancer.

Men who ejaculated frequently (at least 21 times a month) were less likely to get prostate cancer during one study, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

You don’t need a partner to reap this benefit: Sexual intercourse, nocturnal emission, and masturbation were all part of the equation.

It’s not clear that sex was the only reason that mattered in that study. Lots of factors affect cancer risk. But more sex won’t hurt.

    Improves Sleep

You may nod off more quickly after sex, and for good reason.

“After orgasm, the hormone prolactin is released, which is responsible for the feelings of relaxation and sleepiness” after sex, says Sheenie Ambardar, MD. She is a psychiatrist in West Hollywood, Calif.

    Eases Stress

Being close to your partner can soothe stress and anxiety.

Ambardar says touching and hugging can release your body’s natural “feel-good hormone.” Sexual arousal releases a brain chemical that revs up your brain’s pleasure and reward system.

Sex and intimacy can boost your self-esteem and happiness, too, Ambardar says. It’s not only a prescription for a healthy life, but a happy one.

Nigeria Has Not Applied For Emergency Loans - Kemi Adeosun.

The embattled Nigerian Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun has refuted a report published by Financial Times suggesting that Nigeria has applied for emergency loans from the World Bank and the African Development Bank.
The minister, in a statement by her Special Adviser on Media Matters, Mr. Festus Akanbi, said Nigeria had not applied for any emergency loan.
The statement quoted the minister as saying “the truth is that Nigeria, as part of the plans to fund the 2016 budget currently undergoing the approval process of the National Assembly, has indicated an intention to borrow N1.8trillion principally for investment in capital projects to stimulate the economy.”
She said the option of the World Bank is to ensure an optimum financing structure, noting that 2016 budget is part of the Medium-term economic framework of the Federal government, which the World Bank is aware of.
The proposed budget deficit, according to her, will be funded equally through external (loans) and domestic sources. Nigeria is exploring the options of multi-lateral agencies like the World Bank and AFDB and export credit agencies such as China Exim Bank due to their concessionary interest rates.

Aftermath 2015 Election; Investors return to Nigeria

By Ayo Fadimu
Many of the investors that left Nigeria in the run up to the last general election have returned back to the country, investigation by West African Business News has revealed. The anxiety over the outcome of the 2015 elections had made many of the foreign investors fled the country to their home country while many simply shifted base.
The Spokesman of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Dati Yakubu confirmed that there had been increment in the passengers making use of the Airports across the country. However, he did not specify if they are foreign investors. According to Yakubu, “There has been increment in passenger traffic in Nigerian Airports as corroborated by Nigerian Bureau of Statistics”
An investigation carried out West Africa Business News few days to the election revealed that  some of the foreign airlines operating into Muritala Muhammed International Airport such as Emirates, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Etihad, Emirates, South African Airways, Kenya Airlines, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Ethiopian airlines and the only Nigerian Airline that ply international route, Arik Airline enjoyed large passenger traffic as many investors, expatriates and even wealthy Nigerians fled the country so as not to fall victim to the violence which many, including United States predicted would be the aftermath of the election
A visit to some industries in Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Oregun Industrial Estate, both in Lagos State and Agbara Industrial Estate in Ogun State revealed that many of the foreign Directors, expatriates and workers have returned to Nigeria.
Although two of the spokesmen of multinational companies who spoke to West Africa Business News under anonymity denied that the journey of their foreign Directors was because of fear over the election, they did not respond to question on the reason they returned the election was seen to be peaceful without any bloody aftermath.
“Let’s thank God it was peaceful, they cannot remain in their country forever because this is where their investment is and many Nigerians are also benefitting from their investments in this country” he said.
According to Nigerian Stock Exchange, the fear of the outcome of the poll resulted in foreign investors pulling N846.53 billion from the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in 2014.
The figure represents 65.7 per cent increase on the N510.78 billion foreign portfolio investment outflow from the stock market in the corresponding period of 2013.
The NSE polls trading figures from major custodians and market operators on their Foreign Portfolio Investments (FPI).
On the contrary, total foreign inflow in 2014 was up 30.32 percent to 692.39 billion from N531.26 billion in 2013.
According to NSE, total transactions at the nation’s bourse increased by 41.83 per cent from N181.97 billion recorded in January to N258.08 billion in December 2014.
According to capital market analysts, the exit of foreign investors from the equities market was a major reason for its poor performance in 2014 during which the market closed with a negative return of 16.14 per cent.
They noted that foreign investors were exiting the Nigerian stock market due to the falling global oil prices, activities of insurgents in the north east of Nigeria, the fear of the outcome of 2015 general elections and the devaluation of the naira.
NSE chief executive officer, Mr. Oscar Onyema, confirmed that the outflow was a major factor in the poor performance of the market.
“In the capital market, bearish sentiments prevailed for most of the year as foreign investors steadily withdrew from the Nigerian market due to currency risk and the recovery of developed economies, and the effects of the US Federal Reserve tapering off its quantitative easing policy,” Onyema said.
However, following the announcement of the General Muhammadu Buhari as the President elect, the NSE ASI went up by 2,635.32 basis points or 8.30 per cent from 34,380.14 to 31,744.82 basis points. Similarly, the market capitalisation of the listed equities appreciated by N903 billion from N11.621 trillion to N10.718 trillion, the value of the naira got a boost at the black market where it sold between N203 and 207 to the dollar. A black market dealer told West Africa Business News in Lagos that the value of the naira had been on an upward swing since the completion of the election.
In the meantime, the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industries had expressed hope that the economy will pick up after the successful completion of the 2015 general elections although INEC had declared elections in three states, Abia, Imo and Taraba as inconclusive.
The Director General of the Chambers, Muda Yusuf said, “We want the President-elect to start action immediately he is sworn-in so as to restore the investor’s confidence in the economy, we have met him in the course of his campaign and tabled before him the challenges facing the public sector and we hope that he attends to them”.
